One thing I absolutely cannot stand is the propensity for people in this country to forget how lucky they have it and then to use their privilege to worsen the lives of those who already have it so poorly.
I understand that race, gender, sexual identity, and social status are still a big problem in this country but we really need to sort out our priorities.
Case in point that propaganda and smear campaigns directed toward genetically engineered foods which are designed to assist those countries who need it most in times of drought has influenced the decision making of political officials in Africa. It disgusts me to no end when anyone in this country who has far more options than they should ever have pressures and sullies the minds of those who have absolutely nothing.
Religious officials telling AIDS ravaged villages not to use contraceptive because it will make them sick or not to accept vaccinations because it will make them impotent. This kind of control is far worse than anything I could imagine.
When organizations like Greenpeace call it a victory that people facing genocide on top of starvation deny food given to them free of charge it makes me so angry. It breaks my heart that in a country where rich and poor have access to whatever they could possibly need allow their political and misinformed high horse ideologies cause serious harm to those who have nothing.
(I can feel already the attempts to make me out to be a hypocrite for saying poverty is not an excuse for eating meat. If you can’t understand why that perpetuates the problem I just wrote about perhaps you should read my last post.)
